After suddenly and unexpectedly losing a loved one, Susan Gray and Billy Connolly faced new challenges together as a couple. “We agreed that life can change in such short notice, and we were both ready to face the new world together,” Susan shares. An engagement soon followed, and wedding planning was underway.

Inspired by a vintage bohemian aesthetic, bride Susan knew she wanted to incorporate natural elements and earth tones to create a cozy and intimate atmosphere. She worked with T Villager Designs to help bring this vision to life. After zeroing in on important elements and a color palette with the couple’s event planner, Premier W.E.D, the T Villager team meticulously prepared for the big day, foraging for pampas grass, bunny grasses, and thistle and sourcing real-life tumbleweeds. They also incorporated colorful, yet vintage elements, collecting Annabel hydrangeas that they dyed teal, and drying baby's breath for weeks, painting it burnt orange, teal, and ivory.

The couple chose The Estate at Cherokee Dock, formally Reba McEntire’s estate, as their venue. The idyllic feel of the outdoor space, with beautiful towering trees and scenic lakefront views made it the perfect spot to not only host their closest friends and family, but also to capture the romantic and unique bohemian feel Susan envisioned.

“It was a difficult and strange time in 2020, so I wanted to bring joy and peace to the people who were a part of it,” Susan remarks. “I knew our day, October 31st, would be one that people could look back on and smile about from an otherwise challenging year.”

Other meaningful details included a special memoriam area set up at the reception, which Susan designed to resemble a living room, set with a mantle and pictures of the couple’s family members. Seating and lighting areas were set up throughout the venue as well so guests could enjoy the property up close or away from the entertainment, but still feel they were a part of the reception.  The couple also gave out favors local to the places they lived together -Ranger Station candles (Nashville, TN), hand-made blankets (Denver, CO), and Choo-Choo Kettle Corn (Chattanooga, TN).

After the ceremony, friends and family were greeted by showstopping floral installations by T Villager Designs, dined on delicious, farm fresh food from Southall Farms, enjoyed a sweet ending from Baked in Nashville, and danced the night away with The Downtown Band.
