Jessi and Justin’s Kentucky Nuptials

While an hour and a half drive might not usually be the hallmark of a “destination wedding”, our team crossed state lines to create the floral design for Jessi and Justin’s wedding located in Alvaton, Kentucky. Sarah Miller of Southern Vine Co. designed this contemporary-meets-rustic October wedding. We approached the winding driveway to Cason’s Cove, a charming, family owned wedding venue, tucked away in rural Kentucky. Every curve revealed a new wonder - horses grazing in a field to our left, an endearing guest house situated to our right.

The floral design for this day encouraged us to stretch our creativity to new elements, shapes, and color combinations. Purples, chartreuse green, white, and light pink shades characterized the florals on each table and throughout the ceremony; while the bride cradled a billowing, all white bouquet of roses, phalaenopsis orchids, white anthuriums, and bleached hanging amaranthus down the aisle. The guests were greeted by oversized clay jars of flowers and welcome signs designed by Southern Vine Co. which encouraged guests to turn off their cellphones to enjoy an intimate, “unplugged” ceremony. An adorable, pink-clad gaggle of flower girls giggled down the aisle, tossing flower petals from tiny, wicker purses. The aisle showcased contemporary arrangements perched atop our white pedestals of varying sizes and an artful floral archway set off the couple as they promised “I do”.

Our typical wedding week preparation does not typically include a trip to the produce aisle; however, this week we were challenged to create a head tablescape including green and red grapes, figs, limes, and pears, with flowers dappled throughout. The result was a decadent, mouth watering tablescape, and some slightly sticky fingers on our part. Fruit was nestled between antique hydrangeas, green anthuriums, and white roses in our Chic white bowls to complete the guest table centerpieces. Our textured clear glass votives and silver candlesticks illuminated the space as the guests danced beneath a cloud of spanish moss, phalaenopsis orchids and hanging amaranthus.

Deer galloped in the fields around us as the sun set on a successful, fairytale-like day. We headed back to Tennessee feeling a sense of creative accomplishment and satisfaction  - having successfully completed a beautiful design at a new venue in a new state. We look forward to visiting Cason’s Cove again and hope to bring many more floral dreams to life there on a couple’s special day.
